This blog is addressed to anyone who’s involved in digital content life cycle. Whether you are creating, performing, producing, distributing, marketing or consuming digital content: Please take a seat and join the discussion - or just have a listen. With digital distribution, recent years saw the media business taking first steps towards a new economical paradigm. More precisely, the change has been most prominently urged by use of business models and technological options which didn’t adhere to what’s considered legal.
This on-going evolution of the media business stirred up controversies on multiple levels and issues. This blog’s approach is to break down core issues such as copyright & licensing, ubiquitous availability, globalisation, revenue streams and role transforming to topics which can be handled more easily.
My intention is to create a common understanding of each other’s needs and fears. Legally free distribution of high quality content is great from the consumer’s as well as the marketeer’s view - but the creative people face a substantial threat to intellectual property. Technological progress enables comfortable worldwide online distribution, so artists themselves can take care of it. That’s fine, but what about the labels’ new life? What’s their role? Moreover, there still is piracy: Where’s the divide between commercial piracy and private swap “piracy”? How to compete with that? With starving revenues from hard copy media, where are the industries’ new revenue streams?
State your arguments, voice your opinion, give your 2 cents - whatever. Maybe there’s just one reader who is thankful for a new idea, your experience or your hint - I’m sure she/he will appreciate your contribution.
